Rural site and tight deadline present challenges

The brief was to produce an image to show how two new bespoke houses in the Suffolk countryside would look during the summer. The problem was that it was March and the image was needed in a week. This meant that there could be very little reliance on photography and that the environment in the scene would have to be totally computer-generated. This required very careful selection and positioning of highly-detailed 3D models of planting, trees and grass. This, along with creative use of lighting and good design of texture maps allowed the synthesis of a convincing artificial environment. Foliage means millions of polygons and vast amounts of information to process but fortunately modern desktop machines possess the necessary power and the image was completed on time to the client’s satisfaction.
